Today is World Storytelling Day.  The day started in Sweden in 1991, where it is called "Alla berättares dag" – All Storytellers Day.

Stories can be written down or told orally.

They can be short or long.   A story might only be five words long or up to hundreds of thousands.

But why not spend today writing short stories or planning a long story you would love to write or tell others?

The theme of the day for 2025 is Deep Water, so start thinking about stories you could tell about deep water.

What does deep water make you think of?

You might think of things related to the sea or lakes or rivers.

What is going on beneath the sea? A story about a submarine, mermaids, a giant monster from the depths, the Earth’s core.

Or a pond that goes on forever and ever if someone falls into it.

Or you might think about being in deep water, someone who is in trouble. Why are they in trouble? How can they get out of it? Or do they get out of it?

Give it a go. Write a story today.

If you’d like to take it a step further, we also have a short story writing course. See it here.
